Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition Review – The Ultimate High Definition Entertainment Laptop

With its stealth black design, matching palmrest, and a backlit keyboard, the Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition is a great looking laptop. The anodized aluminum gives the palmrest and lid a classy look and unparalleled durability. You CAN have a laptop that is both elegant and durable. The keyboard and rounded edges also give the design an overall streamlined look.

Another impressive feature of this Special Edition laptop is its Quad Core i5 processor, which can be upgraded to i7 should you need more processing power. These third generation quad core processors can handle multiple intensive applications at once.

Dell describes the model as being an “ultimate full high definition entertainment center”, and with specs like the aforementioned processor, it’s no wonder. Other features include:

– Display: 17.3 inch high definition LED
– Memory: 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM (dual channel)
– Hard drive: 1 TB SATA (5400 rpm)
– Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 2 GB
– Optical drive: CD/DVD dual layer burner (8X)

You can expect bold and responsive video playback with the NVIDIA discrete graphics and a full high definition display. There is also an option for 3D display technology. If a regular CD/DVD player and burner isn’t enough, you can add a Blu-Ray player/burner to your order.

Not only are the visuals excellent, but so is the audio. This laptop has built-in Skullcandy speakers AND a subwoofer to provide you with the best sounds possible. You can experience music and video chat in a completely new way. There is also Waves MaxxAudio 4 installed in the 17R Special Edition. This audio processing suite features audio enhancement, volume leveling, and speaker protection. The user is given total control over the machine’s audio response.

Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition’s Keyboad and Touchpad

The full size keyboard is comfortable and roomy. On the right side of the keyboard you will find a number pad, which makes data entry work easy. There are three special function buttons on the deck: the Windows Mobility Center button, the battery status button, and the Dell audio settings button. As for the touchpad, you’ll be impressed with the smooth surface. There are two mouse buttons which respond quickly to the touch. The pad itself provides sufficient room for making gestures.

There are plenty of ports surrounding the chassis. On the left, you will find USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and VGA outputs for connecting to an external display, and jacks for the microphone and headphone. The media card reader (7-in-1) is located on the front edge, and on the right side of the chassis a LAN connection and 2 more USB ports can be found.

To summarize, the Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition is a reasonably priced laptop that offers a full entertainment experience. Most of the reviews are positive, as many consumers consider this to be one of Dell’s best.
