Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 Review – Everything You Need to Know About This Sleek, Inexpensive Entertainment Laptop

Lenovo is typically associated with business laptops, not with entertainment laptops. But that is changing with the IdeaPad Y series. The company is proving its proficiency in this area with the release of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y700. It is succeeding as a solid mid-range gaming laptop that delivers the fundamental goods in a nicely-designed chassis.

It has a sleek lid that features isolated ridges on the right and left and a faint crosshatch pattern that subtly projects the image of armor. The glossy logo is located in the upper left. On the front of the machine are raspberry speaker grilles and a backlit keyboard, which features two levels of brightness control. The two levels of brightness is impressive. It allows for comfortable viewing and playing in all lighting conditions.

The keys on the chiclet-style keyboard are well-spaced and comfortable to type on. The trackpad has a nice “feel” to it as well, and supports multi-touch functionality to trigger various Windows 10 commands.

There are two 15.6-inch displays to choose from when customizing your order: the FHD anti-glare backlit IPS display with a 1920×1080 resolution and the Ultra HD anti-glare IPS model with 3840×2160 resolution. The latter costs more, but is definitely worth the upgrade if you can afford it. There is also a touchscreen version of the Y700.

The display looks great in most lighting scenarios, thanks to the anti-glare technology. It’s even reasonably viewable in direct sunlight.

The port selection is sufficient. A USB 2.0 port with “always on” technology is located on the left edge, along with the power port, 4-in-1 card reader, and headphone/microphone jack. Along the right edge you’ll find a Kensington lock slot, HDMI port, two USB 3.0 ports, and the Ethernet jack.
