HP Z1 G3

HP Z1 G3 Overview: A Look at This Innovative Workstation Desktop AiO and Its Configuration Options

If your place of business hasn’t updated its computers in awhile, it’s time to do so. Whether you work at home or at an office, modernize your workspace with a streamlined Workstation, like the HP Z1 G3. It’s available in a couple of different configurations, depending on how much power and performance you will need.

Essentially, this is a workstation-class all-in-one desktop, and update from the first-generation Z1 that was introduced in 2012. The display is designed to appeal to power users such as designers, developers, engineers, etc… It needs horsepower to back it up, and it comes with a 6th generation Intel Core processor: your choice of i3 or i7. There is also an option for Intel Xeon E3 processors.

This version is 51% lighter and 47% smaller than its predecessor. The stand allows for the height and viewing angle of the 23.6-inch display to be adjusted. The screen offers a 300-nits maximum brightness and a resolution of 3840 x 2160 (187-ppi).

Unlike many all-in-one desktops, the ports on this machine are easy to reach. All of the essential ports and connectors are located on the side instead of the back. Ports include two Thunderbolt 3 / USB 3.1 ports (w/ USB-C connectors) and two USB 3.0 (one for charging), as well as a 3.5-mm audio jack and SD card reader. There are additional ports located on the back just in case those on the side aren’t enough. These include a DIsplayPort 1.2 connector, four USB 3.0, a 3.5-mm audio jack (configurable) and RJ-45 Ethernet port.

HP Z1 G3 Graphics Cards and Storage

For graphics, Intel HD (530) comes in the lower priced model and NVIDIA Quadro (2GB) M1000M is available if you are in need something more powerful. If you decide to install discrete graphics, the Intel integrated graphics are disabled. Choose either the 4GB (1x4GB) or 8GB (2x4GB) memory configuration (2133 SDRAM). There are four SODIMM slots altogether, regardless of which configuration option you go with. Keep expanding all the way up to 64GB.

All of your storage needs will be taken care of with the 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA drive and an optional SSD (256GB – 1TB). There are two internal 2.5-inch drive bays.

When making important business calls, use the 2MP HD webcam (1080p) and digital microphone array. Enjoy crystal-clear audio with the stereo speakers and DTS Studio Sound technology.

While it may not be the best looking computer in the world, the HP Z1 G3 is a must-have for any workplace setting. It delivers a lot of value for its price – especially considering that it can be easily serviced and upgraded.
