Dell Precision 7820 Overview: A Workstation Tower with Dual-CPU Configuration and Many Possibilities

One of the newest workstations by Dell is the Precision 7820 Tower. This desktop can be configured with enough power and performance to seamlessly complete complex projects. It can even be equipped with hardware that can handle virtual reality content development. Thanks to Reliable Memory Technology Pro (RMT), the Dell Precision 7820 doesn’t have the memory challenges that other computers have.

The dual-socket architecture allows for up to 28-cores per processor for a total of 56-cores if a dual processor configuration is selected. Included in the base price is a single Xeon Bronze 3104 processor that is powerful in its own right (85W / 6C / 6T). A Xeon Silver processor can be selected as the single processor for a bit more. Dual processor configurations include Xeon Gold and Platinum options.

This machine is not only very powerful, it is also quiet. Workers can concentrate on the task at hand in peace since there is no loud noise. The multi-channel thermal design allows for advanced cooling and acoustics. The 7280 never comes close to overheating.

Imagine how much memory is possible with a six-channel architecture and 12-DIMM slots (6 per CPU). At the lower end of the scale is 1 x 8GB RDIMM memory (included in base price). The Dell Precision 7820 comes with a long list of possible memory configurations, all the way up to 384GB (12 x 32GB)! However, this amount of memory is only possible with a dual CPU configuration.

Also on a dual CPU configuration there is enough room for two x 150 W single-width graphics video cards. On a single CPU configuration there is support for up to 500 W with two PCI Express x16 Generation 3 graphics cards. Options include professional 2D cards like NVIDIA NVS 315, high end 3D cards like NVIDIA Quadro GP100 and Radeon WX 9100 – and everything in between.

For storage, the front accessible FlexBays support up to four SATA HDD / SSDs and up to six 2.5-inch and five 3.5-inch drives with a 5.25-inch bay populated.

Dell Precision 7820 Starter Version

In the starter price, the Dell Precision 7820 features integrated Gigabit Ethernet controllers (Intel i219). Other more advanced Intel and networking cards are optional. There are many front, internal, and back ports and slots on this machine, including USB 3.1 Type-C, Type-A, Audio line in / microphone, audio line out, universal audio jack, several USB 2.0 ports, and more.

This is just a small overview of all of the configuration options available. The price difference from base configuration to a fully upgraded and scaled machine is huge. However, online Dell Precision 7820 discounts help make it more affordable.

So far, the Dell Precision 7820 reviews are all positive. There are a lot of good things to be said about its performance capabilities. Any company interested in investing in this machine can look over Dell discounts and promo codes to learn how to bring the price down.
