Lenovo ThinkPad P43s Review: A Budget, Entry-Level Workstation with ISV-Certifications and Good Performance

Are you after a new mobile workstation that doesn’t cost a lot of money? Whether you’re involved in CAD fields, STEM or some other technical education, or any other profession that requires the use of a light-duty workstation, one that you’ll definitely want to consider is the Lenovo ThinkPad P43s. It’s been released along with costlier models, such as the P53. This more affordable model has a starting price of under $1,000.

You get ISV certification from the major vendors such as SketchUp, Siemens NX, Autodesk, SolidWorks, and several others. With certifications from Independent Software Vendors, you get a guarantee that the most critical applications will run reliably on your laptop, no matter which hardware configuration you choose. The new 14-inch model (P43s) is a compact solution for those who want as much power as possible in a compact form. It still features a lot of power that is comparable to larger models.

The audio is great as well. You can get premium experience with the user-facing speakers, Dolby Audio technology, dual far field microphones, and virtual surround sound. Whether you’re listening or speaking, the sound is crystal clear.

Just go online anywhere that cellular services can reach. NFC technology is also an option. Cheaper options include WLAN Intel 9560 (2×2) 802.11 AC with Bluetooth 5.0 and (optional) vPro.

The processor options go up to an 8th Gen. Intel Core i7 processor with vPro with four-cores / turbo Boost technology / 8MB cache (1.90GHz up to 4.80GHz). For the graphics, there is a NVIDIA Quadro P520 card with 2GB of video memory. There are a few options for the 14-inch display, including an FHD IPS multi-touch screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The best display with the Lenovo ThinkPad P43s is a WQHD with 500-nits 100% Adobe color gamut, and 2560 x 1440 resolution.

Additional specs include up to 1TB of storage (SSD NVMe-PCIe) and up to 48GB of memory (1 soldered / 1 DIMM). The 3-cell / 51-Wh internal battery comes with Rapid Charge technology and can last up to 15.4-hours when fully charged, or up to 12 hours on a one-hour charge. These estimates are based on MobileMark 2014 testing. There is also a 65-w AC adapter. The OS options include Windows 10 Home and Pro.
