Lenovo IdeaPad S145

Lenovo IdeaPad S145 Overview: A Nice, Inexpensive 15-Inch Laptop with Intel or AMD Configurations

There are Intel and AMD versions of this laptop, both of which perform very well and offer pretty good performance and speed at a budget price. As long as you don’t attempt a whole lot of multi-tasking, it should perform very efficiently. Any individual who is looking for both affordability and versatility in a business / professional notebook will likely find the Lenovo IdeaPad S145 to be a good choice.

It’s actually pretty sturdy and durable for a laptop of its price. The plastic material is of good quality and there is a nicely built keyboard. At the bottom you’ll find a trackpad located further towards the left rather than the center, as well as ventilation grills and speaker cut-outs. The heat exhaust is positioned between the base and lid. As far as the interior goes, there is a single DDR4 RAM module, 2.5-inch SATA drive, and M.2 slot.

Users can expect to hear decent sound coming out of the crystal-clear Dolby Audio speakers. Whether you’re listening to music or watching videos, there is pretty sufficient battery life with the 2-cell internal battery (30-Wh for 8 Gen / 35-Wh for 10th Gen/ 30-Wh for AMD). Expect approximately 5 hours of video playback on a battery charge with the Lenovo IdeaPad S145.

There is a starting weight of around 4-lbs, which isn’t bad for a notebook with a 15.6-inch display. Some models have a narrow bezel to allow for a cleaner display and larger display area.

Lenovo IdeaPad S145 Processor Choices

To give you a rundown of the processor, this IdeaPad is available with either an 8th Gen. Intel Core i3 processor (4MB cache), or dual-core AMD A4 9125 CPU (1MB cache). The AMD model only comes with 4GB DDR4 2133MHz of memory while the Intel model comes with 8GB. A benefit of the AMD is that it has a SSD drive, but only with a 128GB capacity. The Intel on the other hand has a slower 5400-RPM HDD SATA, but with a much larger capacity (1TB).

integrated Intel UHD graphics (620) obviously come with the Intel model of the Lenovo IdeaPad S145, while AMD Radeon R3 graphics come with the other version. Both come with a 15.6-inch HD anti-glare display with 220-nits and an 0.3-MP camera.

Essentially it comes down to a matter of choice. Would you rather have a large capacity, yet slower performing drive, or a faster SSD drive with a much lower storage capacity?
