Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Review: 11.6-Inch, Sturdily Built Budget Laptop for Students & General Users

Affordable laptops with good, rugged construction and reliable performance aren’t always easy to come by. Fortunately, the Lenovo ThinkPad 11e is proving to be one, with its Intel Quad-Core processor and durable design. Its starting price of less than $500 makes it the perfect choice for students who can’t afford to invest much in a new laptop.

The entire top cover is protected by a rubber bumper, which absorbs the force of shock or vibration from side bumps. In the event that the notebook is dropped or bumped at an angle, the corners are reinforced to reduce damage. Lenovo reports that it can withstand drops of up to 90-cm (nearly three feet).

The performance of this ThinkPad is pretty impressive for being such an inexpensive machine; it’s certainly no slouch. It’s good enough for playing some games on low settings and streaming videos, as well as doing a bit of audio editing. Users can also expect good battery life with the three-cell battery (42-WHr. Depending on the settings and which applications are running, it can last for most – if not all – of an entire school day. The average battery life is around 5 – 6 hours, although it can go up to 12 hours.

Lenovo ThinkPad 11e specs include the following:

• Processor options: Intel Core (13-6100U), Pentium (4405U), and Celeron (N3150)
• Memory: Up to 8GB (1600 MHz DDR3L)
• Graphics: Intel HD 520 (maximum)
• Storage: 128 – 256 GB solid state drive

Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Operating System and Connectivity Options

Windows 7 is also available through downgrade rights for users who do not like Windows 10. The display is an 11.6-inch LED HD with anti-glare and 136×768 resolution. It’s capable of 200-220 nits and has a 500:1 contrast ratio and 16:9 aspect ratio.

Even though it’s primarily made of plastic, it’s the most durable plastic possible. There is no bend to it and it simply “feels” rugged.

The keyboard is a typical ThinkPad Windows model with 6-rows and multimedia function keys. The touchpad is buttonless and multi-touch. The lack of buttons isn’t necessarily a problem, as the touch-mechanism is very intuitive. Also, a mouse can easily be connected via one of the two USB 3.0 ports. Additional ports and outputs include a 4-in-1 card reader, HDMI, and RJ45. Wi-Fi internet is possible with the Intel Dual Band Wireless (AC B-G-N 7265) technology and Bluetooth 4.0.

The Lenovo ThinkPad 11e offers a lot of value to its users. Overall, it’s a fine notebook that runs stable most of the time – even when multiple windows or tabs are open.
