Lenovo ThinkPad T490s Guide to a New, Premium Notebook with Optional WQHD Panel and Long Battery Life

Of the newest ThinkPad models coming out, the T490s is being described as the “premium” one. It offers heavyweight performance combined with lightweight portability. With features like a whopping 20 hours of battery life and an attractive aluminum cover (Silver option), you can’t really ask for more from a work computer. The Lenovo ThinkPad T490s also has a thinner chassis than its predecessor, the T480s. Also, the bezels around the screen with the new model are reduced somewhat.

There are options for the 14-inch anti-glare display, including the “low-power FHD” option if you want to preserve the battery life. However, if you’d prefer refined details, amazingly accurate colors, Dolby Vision HDR technology, and increased brightness, you’ll definitely want to consider the WQHD panel with its 500-nits and 2560 x 1440 resolution. There are a few options in between, such as an FHD IPS multi-touch (1920 x 1080 / 300-nits) screen.

In addition to the slight reduction of the bezels around the screen, this new T490s model features a bottom-load keyboard that is more tightly integrated into the palm rest area. It’s also tested against 12 military-grade requirements and has undergone over 200 quality checks to ensure that it can run in the most extreme of conditions, from desert dust storms to cold blizzards. You won’t have to worry if you accidentally drop the Lenovo ThinkPad T490s or bump it up against something – it is more than durable enough to survive.
