Lenovo ThinkPad T490 Guide: A Look at This New ThinkPad’s Features, Specs, and Configuration Options

Lenovo’s new lineup of Thinkpad models includes the T490, which has a starting weight of just 3.23-lbs and 8th Gen. Intel Core processors. Choose either an i5 or i7 processor, depending on your needs. The 14-inch display has 22% thinner bezels than the T480. With the Lenovo ThinkPad T490, there is an option for a WQHD 500-nits display with Dolby Vision HDR and NVIDIA GeForce (MX 250) 2GB dedicated graphics.

This machine is perfect for mobility and it’s a must-have for any business professional – especially with the long battery life (up to 16 hours) and rapid charge with the 65-W AC adapter. There is even optional global LTE-A connectivity.

While ThinkPads are usually designed with business in mind, Lenovo occasionally reaches out to other sectors. There is actually a “Healthcare” Edition of the T490. This specific configuration is custom made for use in hospitals with features like an anti-microbial coating around the chassis, RFID reader, and a special fingerprint reader (FIPS-201).

Performance of Lenovo ThinkPad T490

Regardless of how you have it customized, you can count on the Lenovo ThinkPad T490 to deliver excellent performance. There are several displays to choose from, all of which are 14-inch IPS anti-glare screens. One is a multi-touch display with 1920 x 1080 / 300-nits. There is also an option for a “low-power” FHD with 400-nits. As mentioned above, you can opt for a WQHD display with 100% Abode color gamut. The cheapest option is for an anti-glare display with 1366 x 768 resolution / 220-nits. The “low-power” display allows for the 16 hour battery life (50Whr).

What about the memory? The 1-DIMM onboard slot can be equipped with up to 32GB DDR 2400-MHz. There is plenty of room for storage in this thin, light notebook. The PCIe SSD drive can hold up to 1TB of applications, documents, music, videos, data, and so forth.

While Intel UHD 620 graphics are sufficient for many users, there are still those who require dedicated graphics. If you need additional graphics power for your tasks, then you can choose the configuration with NVIDIA 2GB GeForce MX 250.

Port selection on the Lenovo ThinkPad T490 includes Two USB 3.1 (Gen. 1) – one always on, one USB 3.1 Type-C (Gen 2 / Thunderbolt 3 / HDMI 1.4b), Ethernet RJ-45, and a nano-SIM card slot on models with WWAN technology.

To get the best that this notebook can offer, Lenovo recommends Windows 10 Pro for the OS.
