Lenovo ThinkPad P73 Preview: What This Powerful New, Mobile Workstation Comes With

Lenovo has recently revealed its “most powerful ThinkPad model ever”. It has a 17.3-inch display, Xeon multi-core or 9th Generation Intel Core processor, NVIDIA Quadro RTX graphics, and more. It’s made to tackle the most difficult and demanding of workflows. No matter what you want to listen to, you can enjoy rich, full audio of the Lenovo ThinkPad P73 workstation thanks to its 2-watt stereo speakers. Enhanced Dolby Atmos enabled audio is experienced when you plug-in your headphones. With the dual-field microphone sestup, you will be heard loud and clear on every single call.

This mobile workstation also offers a long battery life and strong connectivity. It is certified to work with WiFi-6, which is the fastest Wi-Fi ever. You can expect data transfer speeds of up to 9.6-Gbps. WiFi 6 technology is very fast, even in crowded environments. The battery can actually survive nearly 17 hours per charge. On top of that, it has Rapid Charge technology, which allows it to quickly recharge (80% capacity within an hour).

There is also the “ThinkShutter” function, which is essentially a physical webcam cover.

The P73, as mentioned above, comes with an Intel Xeon E processor OR 9th Gen. Intel Core i9 processor, both of which come with vPro and Turbo Boost technology. The Intel Core processor comes with 8-cores / 16MB cache, and the Intel Xeon comes with 6-cores / 12MB cache. The graphics are NVIDIA Quadro P620 with 4GB of dedicated video memory. There are more powerful options, such as Quadro RTX 3000 (6GB), Quadro RTX 4000 (8GB), and even Quadro RTX 5000 (16GB).

The 17.3-inch display is available as a FHD IPS anti-glare panel with 1920 x 1080 resolution (300-nits) and UHD IPS anti-glare with 3480 x 2160 (400-nits). The memory is actually available to up to 128GB, which is an amazing feat for a laptop. There is room for up to 6TB of storage as well, with a combination of PCIe SSD and SATA HDD drives.

  1. It’s quite a disappointment that both Dell and HP have portable workstations with Xeon processor E-2286m instead of E-2276m, which has 8 cores, while in thinkpad there are only worse choices. Also, thinkpad p73 does not have removable battery, which is quite bad. Some models have a removable battery and a small internal battery for hot swap.
