Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Review & Comparison of a Powerful Workstation with AMD and Intel Versions

This machine offers “on-the-go” power and performance in the form of a lightweight workstation. It has great storage capacity, a good amount of memory, an array of ports, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and more. The Lenovo ThinkPad P16s comes in Intel and AMD versions.

Several versions of the 16-inch display are also available, depending on the customization. The lowest-priced model includes a 16-inch WUXGA IPS anti-glare display with 300 nits and 1920 x 1200 resolution. Optional low blue-light technology is available, as well as a touchscreen. Go all the way up to a WQXGA display with 2560 x 1600 resolution, anti-glare technology, and 400 nits.

For the AMD version, the display features TUV Eyesafe-certified Dolby Vision HDR, 100% sRGB, and X-Rite Factory Display Calibration.

As for the operating system of the Lenovo ThinkPad P16s, the AMD version comes with Windows Pro, and you can order the Intel with Windows 11 Pro or Home. In addition, you can opt-in for a free downgrade to Windows 10 Pro 64, which is already preinstalled.

The processor options for the Intel go up to a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 1280P with vPro technology, 14-cores / 24MB cache / 20-threads, and Turbo Boost. For the other model, the configuration may include an AMD Ryzen 5 PRO with 6-cores or Ryzen 7 Pro (6850U) with 8-cores.

Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Memory and Storage

Both versions can hold a lot of memory – 32GB maximum for AMD (LPDDR5 6400-Mhz technology) and 48GB maximum for Intel (DDR4 3200-MHz). Since this is a workstation, its build will allow for more memory and storage capacity than a typical laptop.

Speaking of which, expect high capacity (1TB – 2TB) storage solutions with SSD Generation 4 performance.

For the graphics, the Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Intel version comes with integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics with the option for NVIDIA T550 4GB dedicated. Depending on the specific configuration, the AMD option comes with either integrated AMD Radeon 660M or 680M.

There are a lot of security features and management tools, as with any business laptop. It has dTPM 2.0, a webcam privacy shutter, self-healing BIOS, and a Kensington lock slot. Some additional options include a match-on-chip touch fingerprint reader, PrivacyGuard, and Hybrid FHD + IR cam for facial recognition.

Lastly, the ISV Certifications for the Lenovo ThinkPad P16s include 3DEXPERIENCE, Creo, NX, Revit, ANSYS, Solid Edge, and others. These workstations are made with sustainability in mind, as they are RoHS Compliant and ENERGY STAR 8.0 certified. In addition, the adapter is made with 95% recycled plastic. The package includes the workstation itself, a 65-W / 100-W / 135-W AC adapter, the internal battery, and a Quick Start Guide.
